Location

3 miles north of Louth. 3 minutes from A16 in the hamlet of Little Grimsby.

Access

Do not follow your sat nav after leaving the A16. As this site is on a working farm, there are many farm tracks which a sat nav would lead you down. Leave the A16 at Fotherby (heading north or south) and then turn on to Little Grimsby Lane. It’s narrow in parts but plenty of passing places and good onward visability. Proceed slowly over the hump-back bridge. Continue to follow the lane round into and through Little Grimsby. Upon exiting the hamlet, after Braders Farm, you’ll get to a gravel track on the left, at the corner. Go down this track.

Pitch & Costs

£25 per pitch per night (June 2023).

All pitches are fully serviced (electric, water and grey waste) hardstanding which accommodate ‘van and car. Your awning can be pitched on the grass (see pics for examples).

Our Stay & Our Thoughts

As always, we decided that a weekend away in the caravan was needed. Due to our work commitments, we would not have time to travel to far on the Friday. We decided to see what sites where around locally. That is how we came across Hares Leap at Hirds Farm House CS. Just 20 minutes down the road, boasting views of the Lincolnshire Wolds and was the winner of Camping & Caravanning Clubs Best CS & Best New CS Site Award 2020. We thought we had best check it out.

Booking was done via calling the number on the C&CC website. We spoke to Jacqueline the owner and made the booking. She also advised us of the best route to approach the site.

Friday came around and we set off. We got on the A16 heading towards Louth. We turned off at Fotherby Village and travelled along Louth Road. We continued down and tuned left at the second turning on to Little Grimsby Lane. We were now heading towards the Hamlet of Little Grimsby. The lane is a bit narrower but there is still plenty of room for two vehicles to pass. Before you reach the Hamlet there is a Humpback bridge over the old railway line which is too narrow for two to pass. So bear that in mind.

After going through the Little Grimsby, the turning for Hirds Farm on the left. It is clearly sign posted. A long farm track takes you down to the CS. You turn in to the site entrance just before the farm house. The is a gate that you will need to open but there is more then enough space to for your full rig to be clear of the main track.

The pitches are located along the edge of the Hay Meadow at the farm. All are hard standing “Super Service Pitches”. Each one gets your own electricity hook up point and tap. They benefit from a large hardstanding and very generous grass area.  Pitches are named for the wildlife that can be seen around the area. We decided to choose kestrel, which was at the end. Each pitch boasts stunning views of the Wolds.

The site is adults only and accepts well mannered dogs. It is superbly maintained, with dog walks cut through the meadow. There is an information Hut just inside the gates which is well stocked with leaflets on local things to do. Opposite this is the Elsan Point and behind the Hut the bins and recycling are located.

The CS is set in a truly peaceful setting for those wanting a laid-back getaway and enjoy the countryside. There are plenty of walks around locally practically in the Lincolnshire Wolds which is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.  The farm is also home to horses and rare breed sheep. So rare we thought they were goats to begin with!

Just down the road, the historic market town of Louth can be found. For nature lovers Grey Seals at Donna Nook.

We would highly recommend “Hares Leap”. A tranquil slice of paradise nestled on the edge of the Wolds. The perfect place to unwind and recharge. Jacqueline made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be returning.
